If you are staying active on a regular basis (as you are) you should be fine to add protein supplement to your diet. Be sure to read the labels on how to take them and when.

Any amount is good as long as you're doing something. It's much better for weight lifting. Down a 20-40g protein shake within 30 minutes after finishing your weight lifting.

Andy, if you are consistently training and eating correctly by all means consume a quality whey product. Your body can use whey protein more rapidly opposed to a whole food protein. This would be ideal for pre and post workouts! Try http://www.crossfit.com for some killer workouts. As well BUY a natural Bulk Whey!!! Quality

Hey Andy, Ive got a fantastic recommendation for you. Are you doing long distance running? or sprinting?
If your doing long distance stop
Do sprints instead with regular breaks
This should be done for 30 minutes
Take the protein shake directly after this workout for best results
It works because it changes the metabolism process and increases muscle mass
Long distance decreases muscle mass
