How does GDP spending in health change as a country switches to a national health care system?

December 10, 2009 - 10:23 am 2 Comments

I’m researching and am able to find lots of information comparing different countries and how much they spend on health care within their total GDP. However I can’t find information of how GDP changes within one single country such as France or Canada, when they switched from their old health care system to a universal health care system? Does GDP in this area decrease or increase.

goes up as both neither patients nor doctors are interested in keeping costs down

What kind of sports bra should I wear for basketball?

December 10, 2009 - 10:23 am 3 Comments

I am a 34A and that is small but they still bounce and get sore. I have been wearing my regular bra for now, but it doesn’t really get the job done. I need help finding a good, but not too exspensive, sports bra!

Definitely wear a sports bra. If you get the right size there’s no reason to wear a regular bra under it (that’s a silly idea IMHO). Your cup size isn’t big enough to require 2+ bra support during exercise.

Sports bras, like the Shock Absorber, have numbers to them (not the size!) that tell you what form of exercise they’re meant for. For example, a 1 sports bra is low impact bra - like yoga. Numbers 4-5 are the highest impact - for running and also basketball. So whatever bra you’ll get make sure you get one meant for high impact sports. You don’t have to buy an overly expensive bra but I recommend you do invest in a good quality sports bra, they’ll offer better support and last longer. You can look for them in sports stores or online (like herroom.com or figleaves.com).

What are the off peak times at fitness first?

December 5, 2009 - 7:44 am 1 Comment

I’m looking to join fitness first, and i figured that i may as well go for the off peak contract, and pay less. Does anyone know what the off peak hours are and approximately how much it’ll be per month for an off peak membership? Thank you in advance. Rudiger M.

Hello,
It varies from club to club, so you need to contact the one you’re thinking for joining, but off peak hours are usually 9am-5pm, cost is around £25-£30 per month, for minimum of 3 months. There may also be a joining fee, but try your local club as they might have some offers on, click the link below for contact details.
Good luck :-)

Do the old consume too much health care? How should health care resources be distributed across the population?

December 5, 2009 - 7:44 am 2 Comments

What are each generations obligations to those before and those after them? Do the old consume too much health care? What is too much? How should health care resources be distributed across the population? Should health care be explicitly rationed on the basis of age?

Interesting question. How many young people, say 30 and younger have paid into a health insurance plan since they were first employed? How many of these have had extreme health issues that otherwise would have wiped them out? Truth is, and the insurance companies know, is that the youth have *always* subsidized the elderly because statistically, one is more likely to need to *use* health insurance when one is older, than when one is younger. So, younger folks premiums go to the cost and care of those who are older. In a way, not unlike a Ponzi scheme.

Is this bad? In strict terms of the youth subsidizing their older compatriots, no. But when it gets dicey is that the youth get old eventually, and when they get their insurance revolked because of a pre-existing condition, or, they have become too expensive to cover and subsequently get cancelled by their health insurance company, that’s when it becomes criminal.

So, short answer, no. There should be a Public Option that ensures the health care of everyone.

What would happen if salaries for sports figures and celebrities were capped?

December 5, 2009 - 7:44 am 3 Comments

Many companies and small businesses are being told they must cap the salaries of their employees. The fair thing is to take from the rich, so that those "at the bottom" can share in the wealth. Two of the highest paid professions in the country are sports figures, and celebrities. These people get literally millions to play a game or pretend they are someone else. Should their salaries be capped as well?

They would have a fit.

They make too much money, but if they can make it, so be it. Talk about capping the Senate or the House (yes, the laq makers need more $ while the rest of us do not.) :((
